World No.1 Novak Djokovic may have battled past Hubert Hurkacz in his final round robin match at the 2023 ATP Finals, but the Serbian seemed far from pleased following his victory.
The 36-year old secured a tough three-set victory over Hurkacz, who was called up as a replacement for the injured Stefanos Tsitsipas. Despite his win over the Polish star, Djokovic is yet to confirm his place in the semifinals of the ATP Finals after his earlier loss to Jannik Sinner.
During his post-match interview, the 24-time Grand Slam champion looked far from his normal upbeat self. After being told to wait by Djokovic for the noise to die down, the interviewer asks: “You seemed upset in that second set. What happened in this match?”
Djokovic, who then appeared a little perplexed by the question, hits back: “Why? Why was I upset? I lost the set, so it’s normal.” Noting the blunt response from the tennis icon, the reporter retreated with their next question: “How do you reflect on the match?" they asked, to which Djokovic simply nodded and replied: “Good win, good win,” before ending the interview.
