Carlos Alcaraz will compete in the ATP 500 Beijing Open and will be traveling to the Asian tour.
The
China Open is scheduled to take place from October 28th to October 4th and has already confirmed the presence of one of the biggest tennis stars in the world, currently world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. The tournament is part of the ATP and WTA Asian tour that takes place after the US Open.
Alcaraz announced through his social media that he will be participating in the China Open for the first time in his career. The tournament has not been played since 2019, when Dominic Thiem won the title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. Restrictions due to the COVID-19 crisis and the WTA's sanction related to the Peng Shuai case prevented the tournament from taking place.
The ATP China Open has consistently attracted many of the world's top tennis players who participate in tournaments in Asia. Previous champions include Novak Djokovic (6 times), Rafael Nadal (2 times), Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, and Marat Safin.
The tournament will be one of several events held in China, including the ATP 250 Chengdu and Zhuhai, as well as the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai. On the women's side, there will be four WTA 250 tournaments (Guangzhou, Ningbo, Hong Kong, and Nanchang), the WTA 500 Zhengzhou, and the WTA 1000 Beijing.
