Juan Carlos
Ferrero spoke about his role as
Carlos Alcaraz's coach following his defeat in
the 2023
French Open by 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.
Alcaraz had
a disappointing exit from
Roland Garros after losing in the semifinals to Novak
Djokovic. The Spaniard played against the 22-time Grand Slam champion with the
possibility of reaching another Grand Slam final, but a regrettable injury in
the third set prevented him from maintaining his rhythm, and he ended up barely
moving on the court.
His coach,
Juan Carlos Ferrero, has been by his side throughout his breakthrough on the
circuit, and Alcaraz has emphasized the importance of the former world No. 1 in
his results. The 42-year-old former tennis player commented on his work with
the 2022 US Open champion.
"I
mean he's like my fourth kid, I have three kids at home, and he's the fourth. I
love the situation that we create, we create something more than a coach and a
player and we hold a great respect for each other," Ferrero said.
"He's
Carlos, of course. I think for the people now, he has to be a new dream. I know
it's difficult to win 22 Grand Slams, but at the same time, you can see Carlos
how far he dreams, and I think he's going to be high."
Alcaraz
runs the risk of losing the world No. 1 ranking if Djokovic defeats Casper Ruud
this Sunday and claims his third French Open title.
