Carlos Alcaraz played magical tennis to defeat
Stefanos Tsitsipas in epic 5-setter at the
US Open 6-3 4-6 7-6(2) 0-6 7-6(5).
Carlos Alcaraz came out on fire completely catching Tsitsipas off guard. The young Spanish phenom smashed winner after winner to the amazement of the crowd. A shell-shocked Tsitsipas only watched as Alcaraz raced away with the first set 6-3. The stellar play by the youngster continued early in the 2nd as he took a 3-0 lead.
Tsitsipas took a MTO for a foot issue and upon resumption started playing better. Eventually, he pulled it back to 3-3 before taking a 5-3 lead and closing out the set with 6-3. A very emotional Tsitsipas celebrated heavily and continued to do so in the next set.
The momentum swung in his favour completely as he applied heavy pressure on Alcaraz. The youngster initially faltered losing his serve to make it 2-4 before losing it again for a double break lead for Tsitsipas. Alcaraz then went on a tear winning four games in a row to take a 6-5 lead.
Tsitispas won his service game to send it to a tiebreak where Alcaraz outplayed the Greek completely with a combination of shot-making and smart play. Tsitsipas looked confused as to how he dropped the level so much but composed himself in time to come out strong in the 4th.
One game after another followed with the Greek dominating play. In the end, he served up a bagel for Alcaraz who looked drained by the end of the set. The final set featured a fierce battle between both players with brilliance on both sides. The conclusion came in the tiebreak as neither could break the other sooner.
In the tiebreak it was the younsger who played mesmerizing tennis completely outshining the world number 3.
