The news that World No.1 Novak Djokovic would miss extended time due to an injury suffered at Roland Garros sent ripples through the tennis community. Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz was among those who sent a message of support to the Serbian, as he recuperates from the devastating injury.
Djokovic suffered a right knee injury during his marathon round of 16 win over Francisco Cerundolo at the ongoing French Open. Although the defending champion escaped with the victory, he was forced to withdraw from the tournament 24 hours later. Subsequently, Djokovic announced he had suffered a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, which left his participation at Wimbledon in doubt.
Thousands of fans sent their well-wishes to the Serbian, including Spanish rival Alcaraz. Following his quarterfinal victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, the former World No.1 shared a heartwarming message to Djokovic.
"He has always managed to recover quickly from injuries and has always come back stronger than before," said Alcaraz in his post match interview. "I wish him a speedy recovery, I hope we can enjoy his tennis again as soon as possible. I was surprised that he retired, because he ended up playing very good against Cerúndolo. This is tennis. It is a great disappointment for all tennis lovers not to be able to admire him in the semifinals."
