Carlos Alcaraz has successfully defended his
Madrid Open trophy by beating a very good Jann-Lennard Struff in three sets 6-4 3-6 6-3.
It was a really good match as both players showed up and showed out. Alcaraz took the first set after some impressive plays down the stretch though it wasn't easy.
The crowd played a huge part as it carried him in moments where his game wasn't as sharp and there were a few of them. Struff played much of the match as the more aggressive player really going for his shots and he had double the winners that Alcaraz had in the first set.
It wasn't enough though as the Spaniard was able to spread them out better and take the opening set.
The second set belonged to Struff as he played it really well. He once again had more winners than Alcaraz (13) and this time around it proved enough as he won the set 6-3. The decider opened with Struff looking a bit more comfortable.
He was giving Alcaraz some problems but after navigating a very tricky game, Alcaraz was able to find some solutions breaking Struff to take a 3-1 lead. The German's game kind of fell apart a bit after that as he wasn't hitting what he was hitting a set ago. Alcaraz on the other hand was really sharp limiting errors and handing out free points.
He would finish it off 6-3.
