Italy’s young tennis star Matteo Arnaldi believes that
facing someone of the quality of Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz was a big learning
curve for him.
The 22-year-old suffered a defeat to the current world
number two in the
US Open 2023 round four in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
6-3, 6-4.
Arnaldi was quoted in a recent report where he stated that
facing someone like Alcaraz helped him learn a few things that will definitely
help him going forward.
“I think it was a great experience for me to play against
Carlos on Arthur Ashe Stadium," he said. "He is an amazing player and
a great champion.
“I tried to play my best tennis, but he was too good for me.
He showed me what I needed to do to reach his level. He is very strong
mentally, very calm and focused."
"He doesn’t give you any free points or any chances to
come back. He plays every point like it’s the last one. He is also very smart
and knows how to play on different surfaces and against different opponents.
“He has a lot of variety and can change the rhythm of the
game at any moment. I learned a lot from him and I hope I can play him again
soon.”
