Casper Ruud played a really strong match to take advantage of a very erratic Rublev who never found comfort in this match as the Norwegian sailed 6-2 6-4.
It was a good start from Rublev who looked pretty solid in the first few games even pushing Ruud to a deuce. He then had a 40-15 lead at 2-2 but completely fell apart out of nowhere to give Ruud the 3-2 lead. He made it 4-2 and it only got worse for Rublev who kept falling apart losing his serve once more 2-5.
Ruud closed it out 6-2 behind 8 winners and only three errors. Rublev tried to be aggressive but kept getting annoyed by his inability to get things done as Ruud grew only more confident. The second set was pretty similar as Rublev was still all over the place not being able to get any kind of rhythm going.
Ruud was confident and comfortable simply allowing Rublev to self-destruct as he only kept getting angrier and angrier. That personality of his is something that has cost him matches in the past and it certainly did here as well.
He did managed to pull one break back but Ruud finished it off 6-4.
