Casper Ruud proved a great clay player once more by taking down Holger Rune in four sets and three hours of play 6-1 4-6 7-6(2) 6-3.
It was a very valiant effort from Holger Rune in this one however Casper Ruud proved a very calm and collected player. The Norwegian survived a scare against Sonego earlier and at times here it seemed like Rune was finding quite a bit of room to operate. None of that bothered him as he eased into his maiden Roland Garros semifinal.
It took over three hours but he got the job done. The first set was clinical from him as he took it 6-1. The 2nd set was pretty solid overall but he had a lapse in focus later in the match and Rune was able to snatch it away 6-4. The next set proved a crucial one in the end.
Both players played well overall we reached a tiebreak where Ruud simply proved better. Doing damage with his serve and forehand he was able to win it 7-2. The final set was another good one but towards the end, Rune was starting to slow down. There is a physical gap and experience gap between the players and in the end, it proved decisive.
Ruud had 13 aces, 55 winners and only 24 unforced errors. Rune was solid with 54 winners and 46 errors. Quite good but not good enough. Ruud is continuning to break records for Norwegian tennis.
