Jannik Sinner is raising cause for concerns once more after going
to Turin and Milan for medical checks ahead of his trip to North America to compete
in the Cincinnati Open and
US Open.
According to a number of reports in Italy, the World No.1
has gone in for numerous medical tests at the J-Medical hospital in Turin
before journalist Gabriele Parpiglia revealed that he had gone to Milan to see
a Physioclinic.
Sinner decided not to make the trip to compete in the
Canadian Open, preserving his body and health with bigger tournaments on the
horizon that he is currently focusing on over the tournament in Montreal.
Parpiglia
wrote: “At this moment, Sinner is at the
Physioclinic in Milan, a private clinic in the city. He has visited his trusted
physiotherapist, whom he specially brought back from his vacation to see him.
This visit was quickly requested by the team for an important study.”
Fresh concern for Sinner or just a precaution?
This is not the first time that Sinner has
gone in for medical
tests. He underwent a whole bunch of them in multiple locations following his
surprising defeat against Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Roland Garros a few months
ago. His body shut down in Paris, and he would go on to lose in an emphatic
fashion after having attempts to serve it out.
After winning Wimbledon in a successful title defence to get
him back on track, Sinner is enjoying his time away from the competition as he
rests and resets ahead of a busy end to the year where he is expected to lift
more silverware.
The last time Jannik Sinner was competing, he won Wimbledon
He has been seen practicing on court, but the Canadian Open
withdrawal for the second consecutive year did raise some eyebrows, and most
certainly this most recent news will turn some heads.
Concern is obvious when it is so close to another big
tournament. The Cincinnati Open is the one Sinner is preparing for ahead of the
US Open. The two-time champion at Flushing Meadows will have little time to
recover if the problem is serious. It could give a fresh incentive to his rivals
to charge to glory with Sinner the overwhelming favourite to lift the major title
in New York at this moment in time.
The fact that he asked his physiotherapist to return
early from his vacation can be a noteworthy factor along with the medical
checks. Whether it is just precautionary or there is something behind the
scenes, tennis fans will be forced to wait and see the outcome. The US Open
will start on August 30, and will be on the forefront of Sinner’s mind along
with the Cincinnati Open.
