Alexander Zverev has endured a tumultuous offseason but even so, he is confident that he is on track to win his maiden Grand Slam.
The world number seven is currently preparing to defend the colours of Germany at the
ATP Cup before competing in the Australian Open which is a goal for him. Speaking ahead of the event he underlined his confidence in success despite a very tumultuous offseason that saw him part ways with his coach amongst other things. He said:
"I worked extremely hard in the off-season. I'd like to think that I did everything I could to be as well-prepared as I can be."
The German who has seen criticism due to suspicious behaviour during the pandemic also spoke about the strict rules backing them fully saying that he didn't lose any fitness because of it:
"I don't think I lost much (fitness). Being able to play in front of a crowd, not living in a bubble now during the tournament, I think a lot of players really appreciate that. We shouldn't really complain too much about the circumstances."
He will participate int he ATP Cup where he played abysmally last year losing all three matches he played. This time around he believes he is better prepared but the real test will be the Cup itself:
"We'll know exactly where I'm at, my level and what I need to improve (after the ATP Cup)."
