Dominic Thiem is struggling with his comeback as he's not playing the way he played before the injury which makes Connors question his approach about it.
Injuries are something most players go through but some of them handle it better than others. Thiem's injury completely derailed his career but even before he got injured the Austrian was struggling with his tennis. It's been a huge worry since returning from injury as he's not playing at a very high level.
Connors demonstrated it on the odds for him to win Roland Garros which are 33-1. He's a two-time finalist of the event losing to Nadal twice. The huge odds just show that he's far from his best. Connor's son said:
"Thiem 33-1. Weird with Thiem right? Two years ago, he was No. 2 or No. 3 in the world. Won the US Open in 2020, had the wrist injury and is just battling confidence."
"I can attest to that, but the end result is, why don’t a lot of these guys who go through that, that are having problems, go to the guys who have been through that? One of our favorite guys, Del Potro, he had something about him every time. He went through some bad times and you know he had a wrist injury."
And more:
"Why wouldn’t you go to somebody who had that problem and had been through it? Why not go to a guy who was the best in the world? He was trying to come back and still be the best in the world."
