Britain’s tennis duo of
Dan Evans and
Jack Draper are reportedly not seeing eye to eye after sharing the same facilities at the Paris Olympics.
The mega event started on Friday, where thousands of athletes from around the
world are participating to showcase their talent and secure ultimate glory for
their respective countries.
Evans and Draper are part of Great Britain’s Olympics contingent. Both are taking part in the singles category, whereas the former is also part of the doubles event, where he is partnering with former world number one Andy Murray. Despite being part of the same contingent and using the same facilities at the Olympic Village, the English media is reporting that both are
not seeing eye to eye.
The differences reportedly started with Draper’s desire to
use the room upstairs. English media reported that Draper’s view is that he
needed the room because Evans and others stay late at night, something which
he wants to avoid.
“We’ve got two rooms. There’s one upstairs which, all of us
wanted to stay in the same room but there was one person who got the room on
their own and I drew it out the hat,” said Draper as per Daily Express. “I think it’s worked out for
the best though because Dan and all that, they don’t sleep too much, they seem
to be up at all hours and up in the morning and all this sort of stuff. So I go
up for a bit of a chat before bed and when I get bored I come downstairs.”
In response to that, Evans explained a completely different
version where he explained that Draper wanted to get into a ‘full-blooded
argument’ at 11 at night. “I've seen a bit of Jack but he's downstairs. He can get
after it quite a bit at some strange times,” he said. “I wake up early but he
wants to have a full-bloodied argument at like 11 o'clock when we're trying to
settle down. He storms in because he's been sitting on his bed for about four
hours and wants to get fired up when we're ready to go.”
Draper won his first-round encounter at the Paris Olympics as
he defeated Japan’s Kei Nishikori in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4. On
the other hand, Evans defeated Tunisia’s Moez Echargui in the round of 64 clash
with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
