Daniil Medvedev is getting ready to represent Russia at the 2021 ATP Cup and he called the opportunity something special.
Representing your country is something athletes usually cherish and Daniil Medvedev is no different as he gears up to play for Russia at the ATP Cup. Speaking about the event which will start on February 2nd the Russian said:
“I played last year. Actually, I was the only one to play it from [this year’s] Team Russia. I only thought about this right now. It's always cool, these team competitions because it puts you out of the zone a little bit where you are always focusing on yourself… You want to win it as a team."
He continued on:
“You have a team supporting you, behind you, on the bench. It's something special. We are playing for the country. It's not usual [to have] team competitions in tennis. Actually, I think guys will feel it from the first second, especially [when] there [is] going to be a crowd.”
Russia has been drawn into Group D with Argentina and Japan, two nations with capable teams but Daniil believes his teammates which are all debutants know what to do:
“I think they all know what they have to do. That's a compliment. Everybody is in [a] great mood, ready to be there for the team. That's the most important.”
He will have help in the like of Rublev who had a breakout 2020 season and Aslan Karatsev who will contribute adequately. You can follow Team Russia in the event through our live scores page which allows you to follow match scores in real-time.
