Daniil Medvedev wrapped up his strong week in Marseille with another great performance against Pierre-Hugues Herbert to lift his 10th career trophy.
Daniil Medvedev has been playing great tennis all week long in contrast to his lackluster performance in Rotterdam. The speed of this court suits his game much more and he demonstrated that this week winning the trophy without dropping a set. In the final, he played against native hopeful Pierre-Hugues Herbert with whom he had troubles in the past.
In this one, it was a little bit easier through the Frenchman certainly put up a fight. The start of the match was better for Medvedev as he broke Herbert to take a 3-2 lead. The Frenchman immediately responded pulling it back to make it 3-3. Medvedev was not to be denied so he upped his level even more breaking him once more which would be enough to win the opening set 6-4.
The 2nd set was played much stronger by Herbert who had to save a break point in the first game. After that, he settled forcing several break points on Medvedev's serve but he could not break through. In the end, we ended up in the tiebreak where The Frenchman won four points in a row to close it out with 7-4. The final set was a fast-paced one thanks to strong serving from both.
At 3-3, only three points were dropped by serving players but by the end of the set, Medvedev started playing much better. At 5-4, he finally got the better of Herbert reading his serve perfectly. He converted the first match point after predicting correctly that Herbert would come to the net and that sealed the deal for Medvedev who wins his 10th trophy in Marseille. Congratulations.
