Daniil Medvedev has been slapped with a fine of $123,000 Australian dollars which equates to around $76,000 over his incidents in the first and second round of the 2025 Australian Open.

This included for Medvedev an incident where he smashed his racquet off the net camera repeatedly in an outburst which garnered headlines as he saw off little-known Thai qualifier Kasidit Samrej albeit whilst having issues getting over the line.

He then was defeated in the second round by Learner Tien who has gone on to reach the Last 16. The American has been in scintillating form this fortnight thus far and saw off Corentin Moutet today to further that. But he didn't turn up to his press conference albeit the match did finish in the early hours of the morning so is perhaps a bit more of a harsher punishment than the net camera.

Last year's runner-up also incurred a point penalty on Thursday night when he chucked his equipment toward the sideline. it skidded across the court until it reached an advertising panel near his bench.

He also voiced his displeasure about being called for two consecutive foot faults. This resulted in a double fault during the second set tie-break. As well as the net camera and press conference, he has been forced to pay as a result.

It has been an up and down few weeks for Medvedev who welcomed his second child albeit meaning he had to leave for Australia late. THis saw him head into his match with Samrej undercooked and he nearly went out in what would've been one of the biggest shocks in Australian Open history given their relative rank.

While Tien joined his Next Gen ATP Finals finalist Joao Fonseca in taking the form from Riyadh into another arena as he saw off Medvedev in a scintillating tie. But instead of leaving with a run to the final again, he leaves having not defended his final points and a huge fine going his direction.
