World No.1
Jannik Sinner will make his comeback at the 2025
Rome Open, with several fans and players chiming in on the Italian's return to the ATP tour at his home event.
The two-time Australian Open champion was suspended for three months after testing positive for Clostebol, a prohibited substance. Sinner had only played one event this year; he successfully defended his crown at the Melbourne Grand Slam.
Medvedev pleased to have Sinner back on tour
Former World No.1
Daniil Medvedev was one of many players who voiced his opinion on having Sinner back after his three-month suspension. The Russian stated although he was glad to see his rival back playing tennis, the ATP Tour had continued as normal in his absence.
"I honestly first of all did not speak to any other player about it," said Medvedev in an interview with Sky Sports. "But tennis is such a strange sport where everything goes very fast and I really love what Casper said about the hamster in the wheel.
“It is an individual sport, so I would even continue what he said. It is a hamster in the wheel but there are 100 of us near each other and unfortunately when you replace one of the hamsters they don’t really care.
"I actually saw something Jannik said and I can tell from my side I am really happy to have him back. I respect Jannik a lot and I am really happy to see him back on tour."
Medvedev defeated Britain's
Cameron Norrie in straight sets to reach the third round in Rome. Sinner's first match in over three months will be against Argentine Mariano Navone, who defeated Sinner's compatriot Federico Cina in the first round.
