Daniil Medvedev played another solid match to take down Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4 6-1 and set up the final against Nadal.
Daniil Medvedev is back into the Australian Open final after a pretty good performance against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Melbourne. It was a bit more competitive than last year but the result ended up being the same as Medvedev was ready for everything the Greek prepared for him. The first set was a quick one as both played very well on their serve.
Medvedev was the only one who had break points but Tsisipas was able to hold his serve until the break point. The Greek had an early lead in the tiebreak but Medvedev battled back to win it. In the 2nd set, Tsitispas took an early break after careless play from Medvedev but the Russian fought back to make it 3-3. Eventually, Tsitsipas was able to bait his opponent into making mistakes and escaped with the 2nd set 6-4.
The 3rd set featured Medvedev who was very upset with the way the previous set ended. He almost lost his serve in the first game which could have been bad but he hung on and it proved crucial. Tsitsipas was not as sharp as earlier in the match and Medvedev adapted pretty well to his game plan. He was finding more and more angles and he won the 3rd with 6-4.
He then completely outplayed the Greek in the final set winning it with 6-1 as Tsitsipas lost all of his magic from before. Medvedev was making a lot of mistakes and was finding winners every time he needed to. He was simply better and he will face Nadal in the final.
