Up to 5 out of 7 first day matches at the China Open ended in 2 sets, with names like Khachanov, Dimitrov and Zverev in action.

The tournament started with perhaps the most interesting match of the first round. US Open semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov and young Russian talent Andrey Rublev met. Despite the fact that most people expected a three-set battle, the Russian managed to beat Dimitrov 6-2 and 7-5 in an hour and 16 minutes.
Another Russian, Karen Khachanov, also managed to win his match. He won 6-2 and 7-6 against Pablo Cuevas. And while Zhe Li's home fans were disappointed after losing to qualifier Evans 6-3, 6-4, a smile on their faces was returned by another player from China.
Zhizhen Zhang took care of the biggest surprise of the first game day. He beat Kyle Edmund 6-4, 3-6 and 7-6 in a three-set battle. Alexander Zverev, the second seeded player, stayed on the court just for a short time when he outplayed Francis Tiafoe 6-3 and 6-2.
