Alex De Minaur and
Jannik Sinner played great matches on Wednesday and advanced to the next round of the
Sofia Open.
Alex Minaur continued his
solid indoor run with another great performance at the Sofia Open. He beat Aslan Karatsev 6-4 7-6(5) in just under two hours of play. From the start, De Minaur came out focused breaking Aslan in his first service game to take the lead. After that De Minaur settled in nicely playing a very entertaining brand of tennis which kept him in the lead. He had a chance to add another break but failed to do so which gave Karatsev a chance to came back when he had a break point late in the set but he too failed to win it. Ultimately Alex won the opening set 6-4. The 2nd set featured a proper battle between the two players with Karatsev taking the lead twice on separate occasions. He did not hold it either time and the match ended in a tiebreak where De Minaur came out on top.
Jannik Sinner also played today with his match against Huesler coming much later in the day. The Swiss player is a newcomer on the top stages of tennis but against Sinner he once again proved he belonged there. From the start Sinner gave his all trying to establish an early lead but Huesler held on. Both players had break points they failed to use but the Italian finally broke through late in the set winning the opening set 6-3. Huesler held one pretty well in the 2nd set as well winning 3 service games before he finally surrendered his serve to Sinner. Jannik took the 4-3 lead, then won his service game taking the 5-3 lead before ending the match with 6-4.
