Milos Raonic and
Alex De Minaur impressed in their Wednesday matches at the
Paris Masters advancing to the next round in the process.
Milos Raonic stepped onto the courts in Paris today to take on Herbert and the match lasted 92 minutes with Raonic winning it 6-4 6-4. It was a typical showdown between two players who are known as great servers. The start of the match went largely as expected as both served and played well. Raonic ultimately fought his way to a break point which he converted. From there both served out the set and it ended with 6-4. The 2nd set was quite competitive as both players had chances to take the lead. Raonic once again broke Herbert in the 5th game of the 2nd set. From there it was an easy ride towards victory for Milos. A very strong display from Raonic who hit 11 aces and won 89 % of his first service points en route to the victory.
In another interesting match, Alex De Minaur took on
Lorenzo Sonego. The Australian started the match better breaking Sonego early to take the lead. He would maintain that lead throughout the set before adding one more to clinch it 6-3. De Minaur moved better and simply overwhelmed Sonego with his energy. The Italian looked sluggish but he improved in the 2nd set. It opened with both winning opening games in easy fashion. De Minaur still looked a bit better but Sonego found ways to stay in the match. The Italian saved two breaks points in one game but he could not do much on his opponents serve.
The crucial moment came at 6-5 for De Minaur when he had three consecutive break points of which he used the first one to clinch the 2nd set 7-5.
