Alex de Minaur is counting on the support of fellow Aussie
Lleyton Hewitt ahead of the Queen's Club final against Carlos Alcaraz hoping to win the trophy.
de Minaur put together an impressive run in London to book a final in Queen's hoping to go all the way. The Australian has a trophy on grass before, unlike Alcaraz for whom this is the first final on grass. It's going to be a tricky affair as they played before and it was a close match that Alcaraz was able to turn around after saving match points.
He'll be able to count on the help of fellow Aussie Lleyton Hewitt who has been the mentor of de Minaur for a while now:
"He's been a huge mentor and my Davis Cup captain, so
he's been messaging me this week as well. You know, hopefully I can keep
it going."
They also stood on a grass court before which was eye-opening to de Minaur:
"I have been fortunate enough to hit with him on the
grass. (smiling). This is way past his prime, so I can only imagine how
he made his opponents feel whenever he stepped on a grass court."
Relationship with Hewitt
The former player is very invested into the careers of his Davis Cup players so he's in touch with de Minaur pretty much weekly offering him advice and cheering him up:
"I think he's just letting me know after every match,
good job, well done, just positive, you know, just being there. Probably
not as much technical stuff. He's definitely keeping track of every one
of my matches. "
The final will begin at 14:30 CET so don't go anywhere as we'll have a report ready for you immediately after the match. A first trophy on grass for Alcaraz or second one for de Minaur.
