Denis Shapovalov announced that he was withdrawing from Roland Garros due to a shoulder injury.
Denis Shapovalov enjoyed a successful week in Geneva reaching the Geneva Open where he lost to Casper Ruud. It was a very close match where Ruud won due to serving better as the Norwegian only dropped a few points. That was a disappointing result for Shapovalov who played a very good clay season so far. His match against Nadal in Rome became an instant classic and Shapovalov could have won it.
Late on Sunday night, however, the Canadian announced that he was withdrawing from Roland Garros. The decision for Shapovalov came after consultations with his medical team and the purpose was resting. In a statement posted on his official Twitter page Shapovalov said:
I’m saddened to share that after consulting with my medical team I’ve made the difficult decision to withdrawal from @rolandgarros. Unfortunately my shoulder has been bothering me and while medical tests look good, it is for the best to rest. See you in 2022, Roland-Garros."
