American tennis star
Taylor Fritz has joked about facing Greece’s
Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round of the
Australian Open.
The first Grand Slam of the year is moving towards its
business end as the remaining players are putting their all in to secure the
ultimate prize. Fritz was recently quoted in a report where he joked that it
would depend on Tsitsipas about how much he will ‘dropshotting’ in the match.
“I mean, it depends on how much Stefanos Tsitsipas is
dropshotting me, you know,” he said. “Every time he dropshots me, I slide up
and put a hole in my shoe, so yeah, but I’ll have enough.”
Fritz booked his place in the fourth round after getting the
better of Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. On the other
hand, Tsitsipas defeated Luca Van Assche in the third round in straight sets with
a score of 6-3, 6-0, 6-4.
It will be the fifth time when both players will face off on
the court. In the first three outings, it was Tsitsipas who came out on top.
However, in the previous meeting which took place in 2023, Fritz secured a
thumping win in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinal of
the ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo.
