Diego Schwartzman was left heartbroken after crashing out of his home tournament, the Argentina Open Buenos Aires. He lost 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 to Daniel Elahi Galan and seems to be doing some soul searching regarding his future.
His last tournament win was in 2021 and he is currently 1-6 in his last seven matches. He said he wonders how long he can keep going like this as he considers his tennis future. He lost out in qualifying to Alex Michelsen in Brisbane and then lost to Denis Kudla in Melbourne.
He then was banking on crowd support as he went to the Cordoba Open and lost to Roman Andres Burruchuga and after losing to Galan, he seemed to be consigned to his fate and not himself as he described the heartbreak and upset he is feeling.
"The feeling is sadness and anger because things continue not to happen," he said during a press conference in Buenos Aires," said Schwartzman in quotes translated by Olly_Tennis_ on X.
"It's hard to describe the athletic moment I'm having. Weeks go by and the answers inside the court don't appear," he later wrote on Instagram.
"I want to sincerely thank all the people, you don't know how beautiful and what it means to feel right now, benched and encouraged as you do on and off the court. There will always be some negative criticism but it's part of sport and you have to bank on it too," Schwartzman added.
