The WTA Elite Trophy concept is seemingly dead after the confirmation of the new WTA rulebook not including the tournament which only returned for one season and saw Beatriz Haddad Maia crowned as champion defeating Qinwen Zheng 7-6(2), 7-6 (3) as well as winning the doubles with Veronika Kudermetova.
Consisting of the top 11 players not already qualified for the 2023 WTA Finals plus either the 12th player not qualified for the 2023 WTA Finals or a wildcard which was Lin Zhu. It returned for the first time since 2019 in Zhuhai after the intervening editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
The 2024 WTA Rulebook was confirmed and there was only one mention of performance byes, but nothing on how they are awarded. The Elite Trophy was not mentioned and the only 18 countable tournaments are four Grand Slams, six WTA 1000's in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati.
But it seems that after its return in 2024 barring a late announcement and change to the rules, the Elite Trophy is no more once again after its initial hiatus.
