After taking Novak Djokovic's spot in the bottom half of the draw at the BNP Paribas Open
Indian Wells,
Grigor Dimitrov seems to be making the most of his opportunity as he defeated
Alexander Bublik to reach the round of 16.
The former World No.3 had little difficulty in his 6-3 6-4 victory, displaying the poise and shot-making that saw him ascend the ATP rankings a few years ago. Dimitrov was exceptional from the baseline, matching Bublik's power and frustrating his opponent into making numerous errors.
The Bulgarian was effective on serve, not facing a single break point as he won 25 of 31 points behind his first serve. Despite Bublik hitting 9 aces, the Kazakh native was unable to prevent his opponent from obtaining a vital break in each set. That was sufficient for the 2017 ATP Finals champion to take the lead each time, closing out the match after an hour and 10 minutes.
Dimitrov will face another big server in
John Isner, as the towering American defeated Diego Schwartzman to reach the round of 16.
