Roger Federer is out of the NOVENTI OPEN in Halle after losing to Auger-Aliassime in three sets despite winning the first.
Roger Federer appeared to be on track for another win on grass against Auger-Aliassime but after winning the first set he lost the next two 6-3 6-2. Federer did not have a good day serving as he allowed his opponent the most break point he ever faced on grass in the last 10 years. After the match, he was disappointed and said:
“[It] was not a good attitude from my side, I was disappointed in the way I was feeling on court, the way things were going. That you know I’m not getting better spells and all that stuff I just think the, you know the whole difficulty of the comeback got to me as well a little bit."
The defeat is clearly a setback for Federer whose confidence evaporated in the final see. He even admitted as much after the match:
“I realised it was not going to be my day, there was nothing I can do, I started to get really negative, you know, and this is not normally how I am, by any means. So I think this is not something I’m happy about and proud about but at the same time, I looked at my whatever 1500 matches I played these things."
Federer will now shift focus to Wimbledon which has been his main goal for the entire year. Everything he has done was to prepare for Wimbledon and on that he said:
“It’s important for me to take the right decisions moving forward for Wimbledon and for the rest of the season because this type of third set I I cannot accept. The first two are totally okay, no problem there. But, look, I guess it happens and it’s all good from my side."
