Novak Djokovic is likely to lose his number one rank following the Rome Open but the Serbian could drop even further if he doesn't perform at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz is trailing Djokovic only by 5 points which means that he will most likely overtake him with a few wins in Rome. Djokovic can't earn any points at the event having won it last year meaning that he can only retain the amount or lose it. His troubles don't just end there as he might face another dip in the rankings following Roland Garros.
All of this is tied to his poor performances on clay before these events. He seemed to deal with an elbow issue but more importantly, his tennis has looked really bad as well. If he doesn't improve he might lose early in both events. It would be quite shocking but stranger things have happened in the past.
Djokovic doesn't defend too many points at Roland Garros but he could be overtaken by a few players if he doesn't play well. He might see himself dropping down to 3rd or even more if his poor form on clay persists.
