Three consecutive defeats were more than enough for Djokovic to finally crack the code of Bautista Agut and defeat him to advance to the finals.

Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Novak Djokovic in three straight matches and every tennis fan around the world wondered if he could make it 4. Roberto himself was very aware of that but still, he called Novak the favorite ahead of the match.

Set #1

The first set was a roller coaster of a ride, to say the least. It started off slowly as most Novak matches do but it became interesting very quickly. Bautista Agut saw his 1st breakpoint on Novak 2nd service game and he immediately took it. He didn't confirm it though as Novak immediately fought back to make it 2-2. The players traded a game apiece before Novak gave Bautista Agut another opportunity.
A few cheap mistakes gave the Spaniard 3 consecutive breakpoints and he took the 3rd to make it 4-3. A good game from Roberto where he saved a breakpoint allowed him to make it 5-3 which led to a 6-4 1st set victory.

Set #2

The 2nd set started off slowly similar to the 1st set but Djokovic seemed to be bothered by an injury. He called for a medical timeout after 3 played games. It didn't last long and play soon continued with Djokovic breaking his opponent after a long battle in the game and jumping out to a 4-1 lead. A few games later Roberto managed to fight his way to another breakpoint. He failed to convey the 1st one but did the 2nd so the match became even more interesting. It was Djokovic who played better after that and he managed to prevail winning the 2nd set 6-4. A decider would be needed to find out the 2nd finalist of the Western & Southern Open.

Set #3

The 3rd set started off in a similar to the whole match. The points were longer as both players grew tired. It was the Spaniard who struck first and broke his opponents serve. His joy wouldn't last long as he lost his own serve immediately after. It would be the start of the end for Bautista Agut. Djokovic rallied and with newfound inspiration managed to string several good points to break his opponent and take a 4-2 lead.
Two games later we were sitting at 5-3 for Djokovic and his serve. An odd game followed where Bautista Agut hit some incredible shots and won it without dropping a point. He gave himself another chance but nothing would be done without him winning his own service game. He ultimately did and we were tied at 5-5.
The craziness didn't stop there as Bautista Agut broke Djokovic once more but also surrendered his own serve minutes later. The tiebreak was the way it had to end and it ended with a Djokovic victory. The final score after a 3-hour battle was 4-6 6-4 7-6(0) with Djokovic advancing to the Western & Southern Open finals where he will face Milos Raonic.
