Novak Djokovic surprised fans by recalling the
controversial 'good night' remark he made at
Wimbledon. The 24-time Grand Slam
champion was warming up at Roland Garros when some spectators shouted out,
reminding him of the moment, which the Serbian took with humor.
The world No. 2 had a controversial day at SW19
a month ago when he defeated
Holger Rune in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Djokovic claimed that some fans disrespected him by booing and responded to
them in the on-court interview: “To all those people that have chosen to
disrespect the player, in this case me. Have a goooooood night,” he said.
Paris fans echo Djokovic's Wimbledon 'Good Night' taunt
Djokovic’s response to the boos overshadowed
his victory over the Dane, keeping him in the race while pursuing his 8th
Wimbledon title: “I know they were cheering for Rune, but that's no excuse to
also boo. Listen, I've been on the tour for more than 20 years. So trust me, I
know all the tricks,” said Djokovic after beating Rune.
This time, at Paris 2024, a video shows Nole
warming up, while a couple of fans in the stands shout the same ‘good night’
phrase at the Serbian, bringing back the controversy. Djokovic took it with
humor and jokingly responded in the same manner as at Wimbledon.
The 37-year-old Serbian now awaits his first
Olympic Games final on Sunday, where he will have his 7th encounter with Carlos
Alcaraz (3-3 so far). Djokovic will be seeking the gold medal, the last title
missing from his extensive trophy collection.
