Alexander Zverev enjoys a very good relationship with Zverev off the court and despite idolizing Federer growing up, Zverev firmly believes Djokovic is the greatest player of all time.
Alexander Zverev and
Novak Djokovic clashed many times on the court in 2021 and before and each time the duo showed tremendous respect to each other. Zverev grew up idolizing Roger Federer and still considers him his favourite player but he is also very respectful of Novak Djokovic and everything he has achieved in tennis.
The German handed the Serbian a painful loss at the Olympic Games which is the only thing Djokovic realistically missed in his iconic career. He also handed him another loss at the ATP Finals with Zverev ultimately ending up winning the event. After that match, Zverev once again reiterated his respect for Djokovic proclaiming him the greatest of all time and most deserving of respect.
He said:
"Djokovic is the greatest player of all time. There is nobody in the world who should be respected more than Novak."
Djokovic himself had very kind words for Zverev after their match saying he will dominate tennis for many years. After Zverev won the ATP Finals Djokovic wrote a heartfelt message for Zverev on his Twitter:
Alex Zverev had a tough year on/off the court. I know how much tennis helps me to grow & I’m happy that it was Sascha’s winning field this year. He is such a great guy. I can only say words of praise for him & his team. Well done for grand season finale & a big trophy Sascha!"
