It was an impressive showing from Novak Djokovic against Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon final which saw the Serbian win in four sets. After the match, Djokovic took a moment to pay tribute to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal whom he called the most important players in his career.
He said:
"I have to pay a great tribute to Rafa and Roger as legends of our sport, the two most important players in my career and why I am the player I am today. They made me realise what I needed to improve, mentally, physically and tactically."
Djokovic clearly had the utmost respect for both Roger and Rafa and he talked about it many times. He was also asked what it means to win the 20th and tie the duo tow which Djokovic simply said:
"It means none of us will stop playing."
Djokovic is probably right and we will see all three of them for quite some time. Djokovic closed out his thoughts with:
"When I first broke into the Top 10, for three or four years, I lost most of the big matches against these guys and something shifted at the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. The past 10 years have been an incredible journey and it’s not stopping here.”
