Novak
Djokovic achieved an incredible record of 198-0 against 26 players after
defeating
Gael Monfils at the Western & Southern Open.
The 23-time
Grand Slam champion holds a positive record against practically all the players
he has faced, and his victory against Monfils set a new record for the most
wins without a loss in head-to-head matchups against another ATP player. This
marked Djokovic's 19th triumph over the Frenchman.
With this
victory, 'Nole' maintains a record of 198-0 against 26 players whom he has
faced at least five times without being defeated. Monfils is the player who has
suffered the most against the World No. 1, followed by
Jeremy Chardy (14-0), Andrea
Seppi (12-0), and Milos Raonic (12-0).
Among the
players who have struggled against Djokovic, there are also 11 who have reached
the top 10, including several players from recent years, such as Taylor Fritz,
Casper Ruud, Diego Schwrtzman and Denis Shapovalov.
Only five
active players have a positive record against Djokovic with multiple wins, led
by Nick Kyrgios with a 2-1 head-to-head advantage. Holger Rune (2-1) and Jiri
Vesely (2-0) also have positive records. Additionally, the British player Dan
Evans and the Japanese player Taro Daniel have a positive record of 1-0.
'Nole' is
currently competing in the Cincinnati Open this week, his first tournament
since his loss in the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic has
showcased a high level of play with victories over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina,
Gael Monfils, and Taylor Fritz.
In the
tournament, he has only dropped 13 games so far in three matches, although the
Spanish player only played one set as he retired after trailing 6-4.
In the
semifinals, Djokovic will face German player Alexander Zverev, who is coming
off a strong campaign with wins against Grigor Dimitrov, Yoshito Nishioka,
Daniil Medvedev, and Adrian Mannarino.
'Sascha' is
gradually regaining his form after being sidelined for eight months due to
injury and has already secured at least the World No. 12 ranking by the end of
the tournament. He could potentially return to the top 10 if he becomes the
champion in Cincinnati.
