Former French tennis player Marion Bartoli believes that no
player will be able to catch the former world number
Novak Djokovic after his
recent triumph in Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old is often regarded as the greatest
player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24
Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic recently took part in the singles category at the
Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal after beating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz
in the final with a score of 7-6, 7-6. After the match, the Serbian legendary
tennis star burst into tears of joy as he finally achieved one last thing to
complete his trophy cabinet.
Former French tennis player Bartoli, while talking to RMC as
quoted by the French publication We Love Tennis, praised Djokovic for achieving yet
another milestone in his illustrious career. The 39-year-old was of the opinion
that after this achievement, no other player would be able to match what
Djokovic has achieved on the tennis court.
"I have never seen Novak Djokovic as moved as today,”
she said. “It is a legendary moment for our sport, which we will never forget.
He is at the top, there will be no one who can catch him. He has absolutely won
everything. He does it in front of his wife, his children, with the Serbian
flag. He was in an absolutely exceptional degree of emotion. We lived a moment
of history, it brought tears to my eyes. Nole was shaking when he was kneeling
on the center court at Roland-Garros.”
The victory was even more special one considering that just a
few months back, Djokovic suffered a serious knee injury which forced him to withdraw
just before the start of the French Open quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper
Ruud. He even underwent a surgery for that but not only he returned to court
weeks after but he also played in the final at Wimbledon and won an Olympic gold
medal for his country.
