Bronze
medalist
Lorenzo Musetti revealed he ate the same food for three months
before winning the bronze medal at the
Olympic Games. The world No. 16 gave
Italy their first tennis medal in 100 years after defeating Canadian Felix
Auger-Aliassime in the third-place match.
Since the
start of the grass swing, Musetti has achieved 15 wins and only suffered four
losses, and he reached at least the semifinals in the last five tournaments he
competed in, including the Olympic Games and
Wimbledon.
Musetti celebrates Olympic bronze
Lorenzo Musetti has
taken a step forward on the Tour in recent months. Although he has been in the
top-30 for the last two years, more was still expected from the talented
player, who is one of the key figures in the current success of Italian tennis.
Although he
wasn't initially a favourite for the medal, Musetti quietly progressed through
the tournament. He lost in the semifinals to
Novak Djokovic but redeemed
himself against Auger-Aliassime to secure Italy's first tennis medal in 100
years (one day later, Paolini and Errani won the second medal by taking gold in
doubles).
The
22-year-old was excited to bring a medal back to his family and return to Italy
to see them. When asked what he would do first to celebrate the bronze, Musetti
responded: "Tonight eat a pizza. I cannot eat plain pasta and chicken one
more time. It has been three months; this is all I have been eating. I deserve
a pizza."

"But
the first thing I will do once home will be to share this moment with my
family," the world No. 16 added. "I am looking forward to staying
with my girlfriend and my son for a few days before leaving for
Cincinnati."
"Maybe
it is a little obvious, but I want to dedicate this to my family," Musetti
added. "The fact that one day I will be able to tell this tale to my son
is very emotional. This victory is for them and for my team, who supports me
and loves me. Also to all Italian fans."
