A common theme of
Gael Monfils' prime was
Novak Djokovic and the latter extended his unbeaten run over the Frenchman to a record breaking one on Thursday night.
Monfils lost comfortably 3-6, 2-6 against the 23-time Grand Slam champion who will now face Taylor Fritz in the Quarter-Finals ending a superb few weeks for the Frenchman which has seen him not be able to win a match a few months ago to compete with the best again.
But certainly not Djokovic who he now sits at 19-0 against and with that, the Serbian ace takes another record away from his main career rival, Rafael Nadal.
With Nadal not playing at the moment and Richard Gasquet who he had the record over also in his twilight, it is unlikely it will get added to meaning a record that Djokovic will keep for a while.
As Jose Morgado put it, it is now the most lopsided head-to-head record in favor of one player in ATP history. But who are the others alongside Nadal and Gasquet? Two of them feature Roger Federer who held 17-0 both against David Ferrer and Mikhail Youzhny, both staples of the early 2000's.
While Ivan Lendl against Tim Mayotte and Bjorn Borg against Vitas Gerulaitis held the records before he emergence of the Big Three.
But now there is a new player on top in Novak Djokovic.
