Thiem was in Mallorca playing at the Mallorca Championships ahead of Wimbledon when he injured his wrist seemingly out of nowhere during his forehand. There was a tear in there that needed to prepared and after successfully doing that Thiem was pushing hard to return at the US Open. He was the defending champion and he wanted to do it on the court but he suffered a setback.
Re-injuring his wrist meant more time off from Thiem who was left disappointed by the failed comeback attempt. The Austrian parted ways with his physio who he seemingly blamed for the reinjury after pushing him too soon. Luckily for Thiem, he did not need surgery which shortened his recovery considerably and he was able to start training a couple of months after that.
Now, Thiem is in full training mode as he is about a month away from coming back to tennis officially at the Mubadala tennis event in Abu Dhabi. The Austrian posted a video of himself to his Instagram showing him practicing on the court with everything looking as usual. Thiem still needs to train up physically before he is ready to return but he captioned the photo 'getting there' he is signaling to everyone he is close.
It will be great to have Domi back on the court and his absence was felt during his injury especially at the ATP Finals where he always performed great.
