Top-10 stars Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev will play an exhibition match at Arena Ciudad de México in the Mexican capital on September 16 in front of expected 17,000 spectators.
Tennis Showdown director Nicolas Almagro has managed to bring two great players to Mexico, promising a spectacle and a memorable night in Mexico City. Dominic and Andrey have played five times so far, with the young Russian winning the previous three encounters, including the ATP Finals in November.
"I have heard some great things, and I am happy to return to Mexico. The last time was in Acapulco 2018, and it has been around for a long time. I was in Mexico City for the last time in 2010, 11 years ago, so I was already looking to return soon.
I like traveling to Mexico since my junior days. I went to Acapulco four times, people love tennis there, and it was incredible when Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev played in 2019. The Mexicans know a lot about tennis, and it's a pleasure to play there," Dominic Thiem said.
"On a sporting level, we are lucky to have two players like Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev in an event like this one; it fils me with satisfaction and should bring joy to the Mexican people, as they will get a chance to see the future world no. 1 players. They are lucky enough to see them in action at this special event, and I'm pleased about that," Tennis Showdown sports director Nicolas Almagro said.
