World no. 3 Dominic Thiem has been preparing for the Australia trip at home in Austria for the past six weeks, working hard both on and off the court.
The Austrian will fly to Australia next Thursday and not hit Melbourne, as it was previously announced, but Adelaide, with the world's finest players experiencing their two-week quarantine away from the Australian Open site. Dominic will arrive in Melbourne just before January 1, leading Austria at the ATP Cup before kicking off the season's first Major.
Thiem finished second in Melbourne to Novak Djokovic a year ago and will seek more notable results in the season ahead of us, eager to continue where he left in 2019 and 2020. The Austrian finished the previous season inside the top-3 for the first time following the first Major crown at the US Open.
"I've been on vacation a little longer than usual, and the training went well. For the first two and a half weeks, I only did fitness. The presence of physio Alex Stober since the days before Christmas was very helpful. In the first week, I can play with a training partner and two others in the second. We can also go out from the third week, probably for the first time without a mask since Indian Wells 2020.
That is sensational. I hope that we can play throughout the entire year and repeat the results from the previous couple of years. I also wish our lives to get back to normal by the summer months," Dominic Thiem said.
