Serena Williams won seven Australian Open titles between 2003-17, making a debut down under way back in 1998 and scoring 87 victories in total at the season's first Major.
Over two decades after her first appearance in Melbourne, Serena is still ranked in the top-15, preparing another Australian adventure. The American is seeking that elusive 24th Major crown that has been running away from her for the past four years, losing Wimbledon and the US Open finals in 2018 and 2019. Jim Courier believes that Serena will have a shot in Melbourne in February, especially if she finds her A-game in the tournament's latter stages.
"The Australian Open might be a great chance for Serena. She is coming in on equal terms with other players, which wasn't the case for her in a previous couple of years. Serena played well to reach those four Major finals in 2018 and 2019.
She has to find herself in the title matches again. While Serena plays for the big record, it is unlikely that she will continue playing tennis. She's playing for the walk-off to the movie of her life," Jim Courier said.
