Despite being out of tennis for a while Tommy Haas is a formidable opponent and Dominic Thiem had to work hard for today's victory.

Dominic Thiem has been playing a lot of tennis lately and it shows as the Austrian is going strong in Berlin. His opponent today was the eternally young Tommy Haas who is still a very formidable opponent even after being out of tennis for a while. Dominic had troubles winning points on Tommy's serve and he only managed to win the set in the tie break.
Even in the tie break, he needed to go the full distance only winning it with 7-4. Haas played very well on his own serve but ultimately he couldn't outlast his much younger opponent. The 2nd set started off at a slower pace as both players needed a breather from the 1st set. Haas managed to keep up for a while with Thiem until the Austrian broke his serve at 2-1.
He quickly won his own serve and took a commanding 4-1 2nd set lead. To close it out the players traded a few games before ending up at the final 6-3 for Thiem. All in all, it was a valiant effort from Haas but Thiem prevailed as was expected. He will face Sinner in the final.
