Yesterday during the match I had a problem with my wrist. I went immediately to do an MRI at the hospital in Palma de Mallorca. The results weren’t that clear and I have decided to go to Barcelona to check with a specialist.
Dominic Thiem injured his wrist in the match against Mannarino yesterday and after inconclusive tests in Mallorca, he will travel to Barcelona.
Dominic Thiem's disappointing 2021 season got worse yesterday when he injured his wrist while hitting a forehand. Thiem was playing well and was up 5-2 at the time of the injury but he immediately felt something wrong and stopped play. After the trainer took a look at him Thiem decided to retire from the match.
He gave an update on his situation after the match on Twitter saying:
"Yesterday during the match I had a problem with my wrist. I went immediately to do an MRI at the hospital in Palma de Mallorca. The results weren’t that clear and I have decided to go to Barcelona to check with a specialist."
Thiem will undergo further testing in Barcelona after which he will probably share another update. The injury did not look good initially and his Wimbledon participation is in serious doubt. The Austrian would not comment on that but with the event only days away it's not looking promising.
We will keep you updated as more information are available.
