The Tokyo Olympic games did not give Andy Murray what he wanted as he did not play a single singles match and failed short of winning a medal in doubles. Murray and Salisbury had a good chance against Dodig and Cilic after winning the first set but failed to win another one.
Asked about the Olympics after the defeat Murray said:
"I don't know if I'll get the opportunity to play again. I had another chance with Joe to win a medal, we were so close, and that's what's disappointing. I would like to have done some stuff differently in the match to try to help out more. Very disappointed."
For Murray this very well could have been his last Olympics as the British player will be 37 in 2024 when Paris hosts the games. Murray candidly admitted he always loved team sports and the Olympics:
"I’ve always loved team sports, I love being part of the Olympics, it’s an amazing experience. As I’m sure Joe would say, it’s his first time and I’m sure he’ll be hungry to come back and do more and better next time."
If Murray never comes back to the Olympics he will be one of the more successful tennis players in history having won 3 medals in total with two gold ones.
