Davidovich Fokina said
Novak Djokovic was not unbeatable but he did not follow up that comment with a great performance as Djokovic cruised 6-3 6-1.
The last time Djokovic played Davidovich Fokina was at the Rome Masters and Djokovic left him only a handful of games. Today was a different surface but a similar result as Djokovic crushed Fokina with ease. The Serbian started slow and had to save break points early in the match but once he did it was over.
Djokovic quickly broke Fokina to take a 4-1 lead before closing out the opening set with 6-3. Fokina was playing ultra aggressively which yielded some results but he needed to be much more precise with his timing. He committed 14 errors to only 7 winners which were not enough.
The 2nd set was even more impressive from Djokovic who did not allow a single break point in the set which he won by 6-1. Fokina once again tried to play aggressively but Djokovic was simply too good defensively.
A valiant effort from Fokina but the difference in level between the two players was too much to overcome. Djokovic earnes his 12th all time win at the Olmypics tying Andy Murray and closing in on Federer who has 13.
