The women's side of the Olympics draw is down to only four players as Belinda Bencic and Elena Rybakina score victories.
Elena Rybakina and Belinda Bencic joined Marketa Vondrousova and Elina Svitolina in the medal round of the Olympics. One of those four players will win gold, one will win silver, one bronze and the 4th will go home empty-handed. Belinda Bencic continued her great play today with a strong win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Not many players have impressed more than Pavlyuchenkova but against Bencic she hit a wall, quite literally. The Russian could not do anything properly in the first set which she dropped 0-6. That bagel woke her up and she fired right back to win the 2nd 6-3.
Bencic struggled with consistency all through 2021 and the 2nd set was evidence of that. However lately she has found a way to bounce back in matches as this and she did it once more winning the final set with 6-3. Joining Bencic in the medal round will be Elena Rybakina who smashed Garbine Muguruza 7-5 6-1.
Rybakina has played the most consistent brand of tennis and smashed everyone en route to the medal round. Today she was virtually unbreakable and dominant from the baseline. Muguruza hung on in the first set but when Rybakina found a new high in the 2nd she got wiped off the court.
