Andy
Roddick criticized the disorganization of
Holger Rune following his split with
Boris Becker and Severin Luthi in just one week. The Danish tennis player
brought Becker on board a few months ago, after an abrupt separation from
Patrick Mouratoglou in August 2023.
Rune was
only with Becker since October and with Luthi since December, yet both exited
the team after Rune's disappointing loss at the 2024 Australian Open to Arthur
Cazaux.
During his
time in Melbourne, Becker chose not to accompany Rune in the tournament and
instead opted to participate as a commentator for television broadcasts in
Australia.
Recently,
on the "Served with Andy Roddick" podcast, the former world No. 1
shared his impressions on Rune's difficulty in maintaining his coaching team
and hinted at a lack of organization on the part of the Danish player and his
team: "With
Rune, it just feels like it's unorganized, and Severin Luthi too. The focus is
going to be on Boris, but Severin was Roger's guy," he said.
"I
don't know what he does from here. I don't know who he's interviewing. But
also, if you're a great coach right now, and you're entertaining this, that has
to be factored in right? The fact that he's had 3 or 4 different coaches in 4-5
months, it tells you that there's something that's difficult behind the
scenes," Roddick added.
More
changes in Rune's team
The
20-year-old tennis player not only faced the loss of his two coaches in just
one week but, as recently announced, his mother Aneke stepped down as Rune's
press manager. Rune decided to transfer the responsibility of his
communications to the International Management Group (IMG), which also handles
the press for players like Carlos Alcaraz, Emma Raducanu, and Iga Swiatek,
among others.
IMG shared
the news on social media, and later, Aneke clarified on TV 2 Sports that she
has other responsibilities:
"It's
no secret that there's increasing attention around Holger, and we love that,
but there are so many other things I need to attend to, and I have several
projects that require my focus," Aneke said.
