Former coach of Serena Williams,
Rennae Stubbs and
Holger Rune recently moved to dismiss rumours of a potential coaching partnership as the former also defended previously calling him punchable amid the friendly back and forth.
Rune recently parted ways with coaches Boris Becker and Severin Luthi after his 2024 Australian Open second round loss and playing in Montpellier. The tennis world as a result had their theories also in terms of who is next to join his team. Stubbs took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that she has some time to kill. "@holgerrune2003 I have some time up my sleeve," Stubbs wrote on X.
This then made it's way into clickbait headlines that they would be coming together for a partnership which she slammed. "I have been sent this by MANY people asking “is this true?” No it’s not! I don’t know who put this out but you’re a bunch of [clowns] to do so with zero proof. My god!" she said after a post by FirstSportz."Maybe take down the big REVEALED headline! this is the most misleading headline & tweet & u are trying to tell me, see the?" she added.
"Yes many confronted me too about this let them talk. Much too few female coaches on tour though," replied Rune with this new seemingly having made it onto the tour. But a screenshot was sent to Stubbs of an article posted on TennisUpToDate where she called him punchable on her podcast due to on court antics. She stood by it though.
"Yep. I 100% said it & he would probably agree there have been times in his past where he has been punchable with his on court stuff! I would also say it’s one area that he has improved on tremendously over the past 12 months. I’m sure someone told him that 2. See how it works," she wrote.
