Former World No.1 and current Roland Garros tournament director,
Amelie Mauresmo has won a legal battle against her ex-wife Marie-Benedicte Hurel who has been handed a four month prison sentence for harassing the former tennis star.
Mauresmo tied the knot with Hurel in July 2021 after being in a relationship since 2014. Despite being together for a long time, their marriage was over soon after it started, with Mauresmo filing for divorce last year. She also lodged a harassment suit alleging that she was 'going through hell' at Hurel's hands after filing for divorce.
She accused her former partner of harassing her through text and also inciting blackmail which resulted in being prescribed a total incapacity for work for 10 days. The lawyer of Mauresmo pursued a 10-month suspended prison sentence.
Hurel after being placed in police custody in September 2023 denied the allegations. Her lawyer contended that the text messages were not proof of harassment. But she has since been found guilty.
"The contested SMS messages are not at all harassment, but a simple discussion on day-to-day management. [There is an] instrumentalization of an artificial complaint in the perspective of divorce," Hurel's lawyer Me Thierry Sagardoytho said (via Le Parisien).
According to Le Parisien, the court has found Hurel guilty of harassing Mauresmo. As well as the four month prison sentence, she has been banned from contacting the former World No.1 for two years. The same can be said for Mauresmo's new partner, but she was acquitted of charges against her also.
