"Don't tell me that. Why are you telling me that now?" - Learner Tien shares funny moment with Tommy Paul after ruthless win

Learner Tien continues to make headlines after an impressive display against fellow countryman Tommy Paul sees him blast into the last-16 of the Canadian Open with a 6-3, 6-2 win. However, as the pair embraced at the net Tien had a couple of final words that got a hilarious reaction out of Paul.

It was set to be a closely fought match on paper between the two Americans, but in the end the 20-year-old talent raced away with it. Tien only won points on the Paul serve in two of the five games in the first set. If Paul did not hold to love, then Tien would break. That is what occurred in the first and last game which secured him a set advantage.

His scintillating form continued as he raced into a 4-0 lead. The serve in the second set was severely under the cosh with just two holds throughout. The last four games were breaks of serve with a sketchy moment overcome for Tien as he missed three match points from a 40-0 lead on serve before breaking back with a fourth match winning opportunity to see off his tricky opponent.

The pair, who seemingly had a lot of respect for each other, met at the net and started to walk to the umpire chair before Tien had this to say: "My quads are cramping." Paul looked at him slightly bemused, whishing what he knew that information a bit sooner.

He responded: "Don't tell me that. Why are you telling me that now?" He said that with a smile as Tien tried to prove his point. "I swear to you. Look at this thing." He pointed to his leg as Paul wandered ahead of him to shake the umpires hand before gingerly hobbling over himself as the winner.

Definitely a name to remember not just for the future, but for now. Tien has proven to be an excellent tennis player and is really threatening a breakout campaign which could come here with maiden Masters 1000 success coming closer with each win.

After coming off a first round defeat in the DC Open, he battled past Gael Monfils in three sets in what was a hugely popular match enjoyed by the spectators in Montreal. He then took down Paul in a more confident manner with his next match set to be against Thiago Agustin Tirante. It is the fifth time Tien has reached the fourth round at Masters 1000 level in his young career, and will be the favourite to secure a second quarter-final.

He is one of a crop of youngsters still in this tournament who could have an impact. Quite possibly the favourite for the tournament is none other than Rafael Jodar. The 19-year-old sensation battered Lorenzo Musetti in a statement win to continue his incredible form. He could secure a third consecutive quarter-final at this level.

If he defeats Jiri Lehecka, the second highest ranked player left, then a possible rematch against Arthur Fils is on the cards. Already having played twice this year, the bragging rights are evenly shared with the Frenchman coming back from another injury problem and showing his skills on the court.

There are a couple more highly touted youngsters in the top half of the draw. Roland Garros semi-finalist Jakub Mensik is one of just two prior Masters 1000 champions in the draw following success in Miami last year. He could take on the other winner, 2025 champion in Canada Ben Shelton, but in turn the American has to face Joao Fonseca, who again has earned a lot of the plaudits. Again defeating three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud with a brilliant performance, he is another waiting for that imminent Masters 1000 breakthrough.

There is a huge opportunity for one of these players who have been predicted for a bright future to prove their worth now on the big stage. The last-16 matches will be played over the next two days with a champion to be crowned later next week.
